The creepers.

I spend a substantial amount of my time agonizing over the decisions I’m making. Am I asking for too much? Is this practical? Is this a transferred desire? I have almost no control over the future which might justify my fixation cause I have to take actions that will get me as close to my destination as possible.
Sometimes, life pans out like this, 1+1 will equal 2, our direct input will give a desired direct output. That makes complete sense, the principle of consistent calculated actions.
Still, sometimes life creeps up on you. The small actions we take over time show up at our doorstep with a package we didn’t order.
I knew for a while that I wasn’t going to be a good engineer, it wasn’t personally exciting. I planned to do engineering jobs till I could figure out something to actually do. I was going to find a somewhat reputable organization to use my degree for my service year and after that, I would find something cool and futuristic to study for a Master's degree. Maybe Food Electronics or Bioenergy.
Then boom, issa pandemic.
Lockdown in my house got tense from time to time. We hadn’t all been in the space for more than a month in almost 10 years. Our quirky communication strategy didn’t hold a teaspoon of water. I turned to visual design for escape. I would sit at my computer for hours and nobody would bother me cause I was busy; A word Nigerian parents would contest to the death.
Half the time, I had no idea what I was doing.
There’s a bit of a back story to this too: how I took a branding class a friend recommended, where the facilitator was into Design thinking and I made my first design friend who told me about Adobe XD.
It is this series of known and unknown transient decisions made in peripheral vision that got me here. Designing digital products. Honestly, I‘m still not certain what I’m doing, but I’m here and this isn’t a bad place to be at all.
Sometimes, things find you. You drop pebbles along your path and something good trails its way to you. Sometimes things take shape in your confusion. In your not knowing.
It’s nice when you can put 1 and 1 together and get 2, it’s amazing when 2 shows up without you knowing where you dropped a few .5’s.
What a nice surprise.
